Tyrolean Theory

The use of Tyrolean’s in various adventures has been prolific for many years. Several years ago Tyrolean’s started to be introduced as part of underground adventures under the umbrella of the BCAs Level 2 Mine Leader award (now Vertical Leader Award) specific to North Wales.

As part of the North Wales Local and Cave Mine Leader Award panel I took on the task to investigate good practice in the use of Tyrolean’s with the specific aim to develop guidelines and resources for both instructors and trainer/assessors within the BCA scheme.

The link below provides the results of over 4 years research and investigations in the rigging and management of an improvised Tyrolean within the adventure industry.
